AUTHOR Bernette Ford

Bernette Ford is an editor and author of children's books. For nearly 13 years she served as Vice President and Editorial Director of Cartwheel Books at Scholastic Inc. She joined Scholastic in 1989 to start up an imprint designed especially for preschoolers. The imprint grew to produce more than 100 books a year, for an age range spanning babies to beginning readers. Ford stepped down as Editorial Director, eventually leaving Scholastic in May 2002 to start her own company, Color-Bridge Books, LLC, an independent packager of children’s books, with an emphasis on multicultural books. She is co-author with Cheryl Willis Hudson of Bright Eyes Brown Skin, a picture book illustrated by her husband, George Ford.
