AUTHOR Omar Tyree


OMAR TYREE is a New York Times best-selling author whose 15 published works have sold more than 1.8 million books worldwide. A native of Philadelphia and graduate of Howard University, Tyree's popular novels, which include Flyy Girl and Single Mom have earned him several awards. In 2001, he was recognized with an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature in Fiction, and in 2006 he received the Phillis Wheatley Literary Award for Urban Fiction. Tyree is dedicated to enriching the lives of the African-American community through his contributions to the literary world. Now turning his focus to writing books that boys want to read, Tyree is making his children's book debut with 12 Brown Boys, a collection of short stories for middle readers that explore the lives of a dozen memorable African-American pre-teen boys. Just Us Books released 12 Brown Boys in fall 2008.

Tyree resides in North Carolina with his wife and two sons.
