AUTHOR Dwayne Ferguson

Writer and illustrator Dwayne J. Ferguson was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1965 and he has been dreaming of taking over the world ever since. An early fan of the Encyclopedia Brown mysteries, Ferguson was inspired at an early age to create his own unique mysteries that would feature African-American themes and characters. At the age of 19, the Rutgers University sophomore published Hamster Vice, the first of his 14-issue comic book series. With his feet planted firmly in the door of professional comics, Ferguson went on to create the futuristic detective series, Captain Africa, published by his own DIEHARD Studio. In the spring of 1994, Ferguson wrote and illustrated his first title for Black children's book publisher, Just Us Books, AFRO-BETS Coloring and Activity Book. It was the first title of its kind published by the independent press and began a fruitful relationship between the two children's book creators.

In 1997, Dwayne J. Ferguson's childhood inspiration was realized when Just Us Books published Kid Caramel, Private Investigator: The Case of the Missing Ankh, the first book in Ferguson's mystery series featuring African American boys as the lead characters.
